Burke is a good, holy man)
Oh, my! Vince Hatt (Saturday's Tribune) certainly has it in for Cardinal Burke, doesn't he?
So very many letters now against him. He brings up that Cardinal Burke, when he was bishop of La Crosse, would not allow (in a Catholic spirituality center) speakers advocating practices directly contrary to the faith.
Is not this the responsibility of a good and, may I say, courageous bishop?
We might more properly ask why the director of that place would (a) in the first place invite them and (b) question the lawful moral authority of his bishop when the matter is one of orthodoxy. I have a slight acquaintance with Cardinal Burke, which means that I have met him. I follow things about him and notice his interest is only in explaining, defending and protecting the Catholic faith. I also notice he does not pick up a pen to answer attacks against his personal integrity. I believe him to be a good and holy man.
